IDEArts

IDEArts workshops offer a unique approach to organizational creativity training by leveraging the insights and strategies of a working artist with the latest breakthroughs in cognitive neuroscience.

Why develop your organization’s creative capacity? In a recent survey, 81% of American corporate leaders identify creativity as an essential skill for the 21st-century workforce. Experts agree that creativity lies at the heart of innovation and as Business Week Magazine observes, “Increasingly, the new core competence is creativity – the right-brain stuff that smart companies are now harnessing to generate top-line growth.”

TESTIMONIALS

“The workshop was energizing and thought-provoking. It encouraged me to reframe notions of creativity....especially my own. It had applications not only to my emerging artist-side but to my professional work. I learned a great deal and had fun in the process.”
– Judy Sakaki, Ph.D.
Vice President-Student Affairs
University of California

“The creative process is the perfect complement for my work as an administrator in local government; painting has "smoothed" me out, providing needed balance and perspective. I believe the creativity training offered by Kathy Waste teaches the value of exploring both sides of the brain to be more effective in all areas of life.”
– Sharon Jensen
County Administrator
Yolo County, California

“I loved the vibrancy and intelligence Kathy brought to the subject. The practical integration of the right and left side of the brain seems to be an ignored but, imperative part of every human being. The workshop brought the subject to light in a fun, practical and colorful way. The teaching, musical and artistic projects normalized parts of my thinking opening more layers of ME!!”
– Ginni Murray, LCSW
El Dorado Hills, CA

“Helping us get into our “Right Mind” doubles the brain capacity we bring to work. The cost of the off-site retreat returned many times its value in terms of our staff’s refreshed perspective and renewed enthusiasm for generating creative solutions to the many challenges that we face as a non profit in a tight economy. This was a great teambuilding experience. When's the next one?”
– Robert Tobin
Executive Director,
Cottage Housing, Inc.

“The creativity workshop was not only fun-filled, but full of interesting facts that redefined the idea of creativity. Creativity is not something confined to geniuses—and madmen—but everyone who is willing to "play a little" in their lives.”

“The workshop was extremely interesting. Learning about how the right/left brain works in relation to getting the creativity flowing was fascinating. The painting we did while in the workshop was like nothing I have ever experienced before; it was a blast, actually! It was intellectual as well as a lot of fun.”
– Kim Box
Director, Global Solutions Centers
Hewlett Packard

“I got so much more than I expected from the workshop. The dynamic between Artist and Psychiatrist as presenters was wonderful; I did not expect such a rich blend of science and art. I would highly recommend this workshop to anyone. I came with absolutely no artistic background and walked away with a better knowledge of how the right and left brain work, and the need to use both actively to maintain balance in ourselves. I may not ever become a mainstream artist, but it was a very freeing experience to let my creative energy flow in such a relaxed and open atmosphere. Thank you so much.”

WHAT WE DO

Whether exploring the latest discoveries in cognitive neuroscience or expanding your sensory perception through hands-on art experiences, IDEArts workshops provide you with the tools you need to generate new ways of thinking. You’ll see things from a fresh perspective as you discover how your creative brain really works and why breakthroughs can come from anyone – not just certified “geniuses” – at anytime.

IDEArts workshops feature dynamic presentations, breakout discussions, small group exercises and art activities presented step-by-step with plenty of coaching and encouragement. Participants are granted artistic license to experience the “thinking tools” of creativity – including visualization, abstract thinking, observation, pattern recognition, imaging and reflective self-evaluation. No artistic skills are necessary; just a sense of adventure and spirit of exploration.
